My name is Cheyenne. I’m a 25 year old who is very passionate about gardening and furthermore reaching toward sustainability.
I married my high school sweetheart when we were 19 years old. We moved in together at 18 years old. This is how my passion started. Many people actually forget that Jonathon, my husband, is the one with a green thumb. He completely revived all the roses at our first house. Our landlord and I thought they were all dead. When I decided to start my own garden. It seemed like it was doing great, I got very boastful (not much has changed) about MY garden and the food that I was growing all myself, so my husband stopped taking care of it. I was devastated. I had no idea where I went wrong. Then my husband told me what he had been doing for me, this is my favorite story to tell. He now helps me in the garden and I am MUCH appreciative.
I did have a garden as a child. Our family grew pumpkins, tomatoes, corn, garlic, onions, kale and fava beans. I have very fond memories of going and checking on our garden and preparing the ground for our pumpkin patch, planting seeds and watching the plants grow very quickly. Pumpkins were our main focus as kids because we would sell our pumpkins in our front yard to raise money for us to go to the county fair every year. Both my parents, during their own childhoods, grew up with gardens that provided much of the produce for their families. Once my dads parents moved away from the dairy and more toward town, they cut back on gardening. When my mothers parents moved to the states, they cut back.
Now I’ve have had my own garden for about 6 years (still very much a beginner) but I’m happy to say that I get so excited about gardening that it got my sister to start a vegetable garden, my parents are growing again, I started my mother-in-law’s garden and I hope to convert many many more people to the wonderful lifestyle of growing their own food. So that brings us here!
